Joanna’s Story

So, long story short...
Joanna made the mistake of
taking advantage of the open bar
My Advice to You is
pace yourself, especially when around coworkers.
Here's the whole story
(Man, I'm racking up the "things not to do around the office" stories.)
Our company held its annual Christmas party at the Buffalo Club in Santa Monica. Swanky place, mind you, and free food / open bar as well? Niiice! After eating a decent dinner (mentally telling myself to eat a lot and drink less), I quickly found the few people I normally hang out with and started sipping on cocktails. Fast forward 5 martinis later and I come up with the brilliant idea to take a shot of patron (I mean, it's open bar... let's take full advantage of it, right?). Four other people agree and the bartender gave each of us a hefty double shot.
Soooo, this is the part where I black out - I'm pretty good at taking care of myself when I'm drunk, but that night was not my best. I don't remember being "helped" to the car outside. Nor do I remember the drive home with my coworker/friend where I proceed to throw up in her boyfriends car, on my dress, out the window, etc. The drive to work the next day (who has an open bar party on a Thursday anyway?!) was equally as miserable as we took Topanga Canyon to West LA. Twists, turns, loops all the way down a mountainside... not a good combo for a hangover. We stopped twice on the way to work and I didn't actually stop puking till noon. Needless to say, I left early to recuperate.
I left some drunken tidbits out (like trying to open the car door on the highway so I could barf), but I'm sure you get the moral of the story: Work parties are a bad place to get wasted. It's a good thing I don't know everyone and can pull off looking more sober than I really am.

Open bars do lend themselves to crazy nights.
Awww, you're going to be the drunk Christmas party girl everyone talks about until someone replaces you next Christmas.
And you didn't end up in your bosses bed or anything? Lame.......
