So, long story short...

While Mary was My husband found an unwanted cat that had been dropped off at the petstore that he manages.

Mary made the mistake of

I gave the cat to a friend who wanted one, and a few weeks later, she found that it was pregnant!

My Advice to You is

As much as you want to find a home for an unwanted animal, try to give it to someone you don't really know - not a good friend of yours. You never know what the story is with that animal.

Here's the whole story

It's just a good idea to take an unwanted animal to the vet before trying to pawn it off on your good friends or family. Or anyone, really. I felt so guilty for hooking my friend up with this momma kitty (who had SIX kittens as a bonus prize) that I even volunteered to take one to my house and find a home for it. My husband just loved this. The kitten had fleas, eye goop, a high-pitched squeal, and razor-sharp claws. Luckily, we found a home for it super-fast. But my girlfriend at work has not been so lucky - she is STILL getting rid of those things.
