So, long story short...

While Jon was Leaving the car wash

Jon made the mistake of

forgeting to latch my carbon fiber hood

My Advice to You is

ALWAYS check that your hood is latched after detailing your engine bay!

Here's the whole story

I was detailing my car for a show that was early the next morning and i was cleaning every square inch of the vehicle. So as im finishing the final parts of the car (under the hood) my cell phone rings...and i begin chatting to my buddy as i finish the detail. So i finish up and hop in the car and am still on the phone....and i forgot to fully close the hood of my car - and since it was an aftermarket hood it needed a little extra push to get it shut. So anyways, i begin out of the parking lot, and like usual i floor it once im out on the road...and WHAM!!! The hood flys up and blocks my view while im still on the phone and going about 60 mph.

So the final outcome was i pulled off onto the shoulder to find a $600 carbon fiber hood split in two from the force of the impact of hitting the car...luckily nothing else broke...and i didnt crash.

So, always ALWAYS double check that your hood is latched EVERY TIME you open it.

I did this 4 times! I am not even exaggerating.

First time in New Jersey when I didn't know if I would need hood pins or not with the hood. Apparently I needed the hood pins.

A second time in New Jersey after picking my car up from an exhaust shop, they took the pins out and forgot about them. Luckily they paid for the windshield and new hood.

The third time was when I was in Atlanta doing some engine work on the car at a shop and my friend shut the hood and kept the hood pins in his pocket instead of on the hood. I paid for that one.

And lastly at a car wash, just like yourself, I forgot to put the pins back in but actually caught the hood before it hit the windshield and was able to pull over and save my windshield and hood!

I never would've thought about this as a problem. So did you show up at the car show anyways with the "there's no hood to show off the engine" look?

I just remember being really scared when driving down the highway and seeing my cf hood move with all the wind. I will never buy another cf hood because of it. Its not worth risking that crap for saving what, 20lbs?

more like 40-50lbs and it looked sweet, don't forget that!

I am surprised my carbon fiber trunk lid never flew open?
