So, long story short...

While noir was visiting New Orleans

noir made the mistake of

letting a shop owner teach us how to play baccarat

My Advice to You is

never play with real money

Here's the whole story

While in New Orleans, this shop owner asked me and my partner if we wanted to learn how to play baccarat. He showed us the rules, then said for us to play a fake game with $20. We went ahead and did it, thinking it would be fun, since we now knew the rules. Before we knew it, the guy was counting card totals in the blink of an eye, and even hands that we probably won were skimmed over. But we won our $20 back and even $5 of his money! Then he had us play again. Soon, he had managed to convince us that we were in our $20 and it would be easy for us to win it back if we put more money down. After a while, we were in by $120. At that point, we ran out of money. He directed us to an ATM at the front of his shop where we could get more money and come back to win our $120 back. But the ATM was out of order, so we forfeited our money. It was probably for the best that the ATM didn't work, because he was taking us for a ride.

I like to hope that Katrina put that shopkeeper out of business for good, but I doubt it.

Moral: never let someone con you out of real cash.

New Orleans and New York City, the two easiest places to have someone talk you out of your own money.

That, and Las Vegas, but no one talks you out of it there, you willingly are giving it to the people at the tables.
