My Advice to You is

only buy duty-free on the last leg of your flight

Here's the whole story

Well, I was told this was a rookie mistake, but I'm sure it's one others will make.

I flew back to Berlin on the 30th to be there for new years, and I thought I'd pick up some cheap duty-free liquor in thee DC airport. I bought a big old bottle of vodka.

Problem was I had a transfer in Zurich, Switzerland before continuing on to Berlin. In Zurich, I had to go through another security checkpoint, and we all know how "dangerous" liquids on flights are now. So, they threw the vodka out and I had to re-buy it in Euros instead of Dollars at the Swiss duty-free shop.
