Sandro’s Story

So, long story short...
Sandro made the mistake of
Working with 512mb of ram
My Advice to You is
Upgrade your ram, even if you think you don't need it
Here's the whole story
I've been running on my stock Inspiron b120 laptop for the past couple of years. It was a cheap laptop and aside from a horrible battery, it's been "good enough." I use the laptop to write code, and run simple dev servers and aside from an occasional Gimp session, it doesn't get any heavier than that. I never thought about investing money in my laptop and really didn't think that $80 worth of ram would make much of a difference so I put "upgrades" out of my mind.
Well, I just installed an extra gig of ram for the insanely low price of ~ $20; couple that with a fresh upgrade of Ubuntu Gutsy and I'm super impressed with my machine. Sure the cpu get's a little crazy during some automated tests but it's an order of magnitude better than what it was. Browsing the web has even gotten smoother.

Ram is so cheap now a days if you know where to look or if are willing to do a rebate. Definitely a worthwhile upgrade to make an old computer last longer. For fun you should try and install Vista with 512mb and watch your laptop explode.
I had the same problem with previous pc actually. I cheaped out and didn't buy more RAM. If you really think about all the wasted time waiting for everyday tasks to completed at a 50% slower rate, its worth it.
My new Macbook Pro has 4GB of RAM.. when will it end?
