So, long story short...

While sam was Finishing up work

sam made the mistake of

Closing my laptop lid too soon

My Advice to You is

Make sure ongoing tasks are finished before closing the lid to your laptop

Here's the whole story

I was in the middle of finishing up some work. I'm a computer programmer.

I was just about done, so I typed out the command to commit my work to the source control system, then closed my laptop.

I obviously wasn't thinking, because anyone knows closing your laptop puts it to sleep. The next day I found out the commit hadn't succeeded, obviously. So if you just sent an email or something, just make sure it's done before putting your machine to sleep.

At least your laptop doesn't just randomly go to sleep like my powerbook. Another lesson, buy the extended warranty for laptops, because it WILL break down eventually.
