So, long story short...

While Sandro was riding my bike

Sandro made the mistake of

Tightening a component on my bicycle

My Advice to You is

Don't tighten stuff just because it can be tightened

Here's the whole story

I was riding my bike the other day and in the middle of my ride I tightened a knob on a cable near my handlebars. It's not that anything was loose, I just realized that I could tighten the component so I twisted it until tight. The next time I took my bike out for a ride I noticed a "phantom shift" happening whenever I shifted gears (I'd shift but my chain would take a few spins before actually changing gears). I just got back from the bike shop and it turns out that my tightening was actually adjusting my derailer, causing the phantom shift. Thankfully my bike shop is pretty cool and didn't charge me for the fix, better yet, they explained what happened.

If it isn't broke, don't fix it!

I used to do this with car parts as well, can't tell you how many lug bolts I stripped because I thought they needed to be tighter.

I wonder, do bikers use torque wrenches?
