So, long story short...

the_designdiva made the mistake of

projecting all the problems onto my mate

My Advice to You is

Spend equal time exploring your own flaws when you find yourself pointing the finger at your partner.

Here's the whole story

Several years ago I was in a relationship with a man I was certain would be my life partner. As we came against challenges I spent time shifting the blame onto him until the day it finally erupted in my ending the relationship because "I needed to be free of his limitations".

It wasn't until the next 6 mo to a year that I started to become conscious of my own character flaws -- things I wasn't owning. Things I didn't need to get in a twist about. Things I couldn't see because I was distracted by my perception of all the superficial stuff.

Often you find that the flaws that drive you crazy in your partner are your own flaws projected.
