So, long story short...

trusting the wrong people and letting them affect me
My Advice to You is
be your own person and squash any negative force in your life
Here's the whole story
I realize that no matter what you want to do, there will always be someone who wants to Shi* on your dream. Someone who will always tell you you can't do something or has something negative to say about it.
If you want to cure cancer someone will say "You won't be able to do it."
If you want to open up an adoption agency someone will say "you're not responsible enough."
No matter how good your intentions are, someone will knock whatever dream you have from your head and make it seem impossible.
Don't let these people guide your lives!

Not sure what to take from that King Dream-crusher...I know this kid followed a dream and went to Europe. ;)
But Jonn, you're right. You need to find people who will try and help you along the way. It's easy to sit back and cast doubt and blame, but those type of people usually wont amount to anything anyways...
