So, long story short...

While sailgrl was looking for a dog

sailgrl made the mistake of

buying a dog from a pet store

My Advice to You is

Buy a dog from a reputable breeder

Here's the whole story

My Beagle is phenomenal and my best friend. I got him from a national pet store chain that gets their dogs from puppy mills in Missouri. When I got him, he was so sick with parasites because of the long trip in an unairconditioned semi-truck from Missouri to Florida. His pen at the dog store was also really small and filty. Dogs from puppy mills are more likely to have genetic defects from overbreeding. They are also likely to have parasites, and other problems. I unwittingly supported the cruel overbreeding of dogs by puppy mills through buying my dog at this store. There are so many dogs that need homes at shelters. Don't forget about them.

I'd recommend adopting. We got our puppy from a place that rescues dogs from kill shelters. There's so many dogs out there that deserve a good home.
