So, long story short...

While TotallyTracy was thinking of getting a dog

TotallyTracy made the mistake of

not checking my apartment pet policy

My Advice to You is

know the rules before you get your hopes up

Here's the whole story

I've been thinking about getting a dog for a while, and I often check out various humane society and dog rescue sites to find dogs to adopt. A little while ago, I found a dog that seemed to have the perfect personality for me (lazy! :D), and I contacted the rescue organization for more information. Unfortunately, I didn't double-check my apartment's pet policy before getting in touch with the rescue (or getting my hopes up about the dog). I knew we could have dogs, but I didn't know that there was a weight limit (50 pounds). Turns out the dog I wanted was over the weight limit, so the adoption didn't work out. I was pretty bummed for a while, and I still don't have a dog. I like big dogs much better than little ones, and I don't want to settle for getting a dog that isn't exactly the right match for me. It wouldn't be good for me or the dog. I guess I'll have to wait until I'm no longer renting to get a dog. (Annoying aside: my apartment complex is home to several labs that I'm SURE are over 50 pounds, which is part of the reason I didn't think the dog's size would be a problem. So much for them actually enforcing the policy... grr.)

I say go for the dog you want and just 'fudge' the details. I had a neighbor when we lived in an apartment complex that didn't allow more than one pet to a household and this crazy old man had at least 14 cats.

That's a slight exaggeration, but there were at least 3 different ones in there.

If the dog isn't a barker and isn't causing any trouble they will never notice the little guy (or girl).
