What is up with the font, eh? From your description, it's tough to determine if you had to comply with their request. It depends on what state you're in as to whether consumption by a minor is explicitly prohibited. If you were seen in possession of alcohol on public property, then yes, they can cite you for underage possession and/or consumption.
Story's been fixed. Sorry guys. Formatting issue.
Are there different laws in different states?
Dennis, of course there's different laws in different states. That's (er... that was) the beauty of America. In Montana you can drink and drive as long as you're under the legal limit.
I think a non guilty plea was a good idea, so long as you really weren't drinking and have an alibi to prove it. I would reccommend seeking a bit of legal advice if you can, depending on what penalties the tickets carry. Otherwise, it's really your word against a police officer, and unfortunately his holds more weight. Pray that the judge still belives in "innocent until proven guilty."
shoulda ran....then they woulda had to arrest you...but to hold you they would have to prove you were intoxicated which woul have meant a breathalizer and if you were not really drinking then youd be free or at least have evidence that you were not guilty of the accused crime
