So, long story short...
anonymous made the mistake of
purchasing low end "starter guitars" not then knowing how much harder they are to play
My Advice to You is
Budget for and buy the best quality for enhanced chance of success
Here's the whole story
My boys were 9 and 12 years old when they wanted to learn to play guitar and form a rock band. My husband and I thought it might just be a passing phase and didn't want to invest a lot of money as times were tight and bills were high.
However, they stuck with it, teaching themselves and spending all their free time playing. They would fall asleep with the guitar on their lap and their fingers bleeding.
Once we saw how dedicated and talented they were, we started to upgrade their instruments. It was then that we realized the unneeded difficulty we presented them with by buying cheap stuff to start with.
Nevertheless, they learned quickly and then learned how to play other instruments and how to sing.
They gave my husband and I many years of enjoyment while they practiced in the living room with the bands they formed, and played out at clubs and social events. They let my husband be the roadie, and I was the typist for the lyrics.
I just feel that we were lucky that they had such a passion for playing because starting with a poor quality instrument could have caused them to give it up prematurely.

On the flip side, giving them killer pro guitars also presents its own sets of problems.
Damn i did not realize the cheap ones were harder to play, just thought they sounded cheaper
Yeah, I spent a day going through pawn shops and music stores searching for a good beginner guitar. I realized I bought the guitar to quickly without going with someone who understands what a better quality one would sound like. The only good thing about finding mine was that I made sure it fit nicely. I'm really short so I found a one 3/4 the normal size.
