So, long story short...

While Lisa was waking up in the morning

Lisa made the mistake of

trying a 6 hour energy shot

My Advice to You is

don't drink 6 hour energy shots

Here's the whole story

They're nasty... a mixture of cherry Tylenol and Flinstone-vitamin-flavors, they're gross to drink... not to mention my little body could not handle it. I had the shakes for literally 6 hours and was having GI issues all day. No energy shots any more.

Yeah those things are always up on sale at 7-11, I tried em once, they dont really do anything for me, like i dont know its unnoticable. I just know that if you are looking for energy, adding things to your body to get it is stupid, just get a good 8-9 hours of sleep the night before and you should be good.

What drink was it, specifically? What are the ingredients of this "energy shot"? Perhaps one is supposed to be about ready to do a decathlon or something just after consuming one of those things.

Personally, energy drinks (and double-espresso shots) do nothing for me. I just don’t notice any kind of difference or boost in energy when I consume them. Hell – I took NoDoze back in college to stay up to cram for an exam. Was asleep within the hour.

Regardless, I will say I have learned from this for the simple fact that you claim Gi issues after use. I really don’t wanna finally find something that actually gives me energy, but it's only good for running to the can.

get some 200mg caffeine pills, get hooked like Jesse Spano - "I'm so excited... I'm so excited... I'm so, scared......"

Well caffeine is in most products that cause stimulation (ie NoDoze is basically caffeine) to keep you up, however, with some people who cannot tolerate caffeine it also stimulates your GI tract to get you to go... sort of a laxative effect.

The GI problems could most likely be due to the artificial sweeter Sucralose, or more commonly known as Splenda. I tried Splenda for a week and it felt like my GI tract was ripped to pieces -- gas, bloating, abdominal pain, cramps. Do a web search for "dangers of splenda" and you'll see.

In addition, most of those energy shots or drinks have two types of artificial preservatives in them. You may not feel a negative impact right away from that but really they are just a one-two punch to the trillions of cells in the body - not good.

If you want to be healthy for life just remember -- Junk in, Junk out. Meaning that, you put junk inside your body it will react negatively either immediately or sometime in the future.

If you want energy here are some natural things you can do.

>> WATER! Believe it or not, most people have a lack of energy because they're dehydrated and don't even realize it. As soon as I increase a person's water intake, immediately they notice a difference in energy. My rule of thumb is -- 1 cup of water for every 20 pounds of healthy body weight.

>> Make sure you get 8-10 hours of sleep a night. The more stress or activity in your life the more sleep you will require. Go to bed before 12 midnight. Research has proven that people who work the graveyard shift (late night to early morning) or burn the midnight oil, have more health problems, disease and are generally more fatigued than someone who asleep well before midnight.

>> Eat healthy! Plenty of raw fruits and vegetables and good quality protein. The body can only make energy from the food it takes in. (remember my junk in, junk out philosopy?) The body can't make energy from nothing. Fuel it well, and your body will run well.

>> Cardiovascular exercise! Another reason why people are sluggish and tired is because their metabolism has slowed down due to inactivity. Get on the treadmill or join a spinning class, swim or something. Get your heart pumping and break a sweat. You need to get blood which carries oxygen and nutrients to the small capillaries in your brain. You're working against gravity here, so you got to get the heart pumping to get proper circulation. Do this 3 or more times a week and watch how your energy goes through the roof! even on non workout days.
