So, long story short...

While Mary was 18 years old

Mary made the mistake of

getting a tattoo

My Advice to You is

don't do it - or at least wait a couple years

Here's the whole story

I have a lovely tattoo on my lower back that I thought I would adore forever when I was 18 and stupid and paid the measley $150 to get it put on....

I am now 24 and have been through over 10 laser treatments to get it removed, and it is still holding strong. Not to mention the removal is the most painful and expensive process I could have ever imagined. I have spent over $2500 to have it off, and the dang thing is still there. Only now it's faded and a little scarred.

If you are considering a tattoo, just wait a few years - you'll find you can live without the thing - and you'll be much happier in the end!!!

Thank you Mary.

I have been struggling with the decision to get a tattoo, and I always just wait. I very much want a pin-up of George Petty's Native American girl drawinga bow and arrow on my back. This would surely be a large piece and one that would be VERY expensive to get, because I won't go to just anybody. (I probably would fly myself to Connecticut to see Tim Harris at Hope Tattoo.) But, anyway, I appreciate your saying something because it is a good reminder. My dear friend who is a year younger than me, and just graduated high school has gotten a very poorly thought-out and very unprofessional looking piece on her upper back. It's nice to be able to think, "Oh, thank GOD I did not get that tattoo when I was 18."

Man, I've been trying to design my tattoo for 5 years now. Here's hoping my future is just as indecisive.
