So, long story short...

While SunnySumm was on my lunch break at Target

SunnySumm made the mistake of

confusing the gas pedal with the brake pedal

My Advice to You is

never think you know everything about driving

Here's the whole story

So, I was running into Target on my lunch hour to grab a few items. I was looking for a parking space and searching desperately for one that wasn't a mile hike from the store. I found a space that was on the far side of the lot. One of the spaces that butts up the the curb and the planters with the trees in them. Now, I have owned this car for almost 4 years so I know how the thing works. I have no one riding shotgun, the radio is not on, I'm not having a conversation on my cell...there's absolutely nothing to distract from pulling into this parking space. It wasn't even a tight squeeze-the space on right side of my desired spot was vacant. So, I make a slow right swing into the parking space, ease in, foot off the gas, and instead of placing my foot on the brake and parking my car...WHAM on the gas, up my car goes onto the curb, and into the tree...I just remember looking in my rear-view mirror and seeing all the people in the parking lot stopping what they were doing and pointing. Needless to say-a simple run in with a tree is an expensive repair and makes for a lot of bad jokes at auto body shops.

I saw a lady do this the other day. Her foot got stuck on the accelerator while turning into the parking lot. She missed a gas line by one foot, and hit the outside wall of the bank.

My first reaction was to yell "pwned!", then I realized I'm not 16 anymore and it wouldn't be funny. I helped her out of her car, and called 911.

I think we've all had an experience like this.. I distinctly remember one where I went to hit the brake after being on the highway in cruise control and accidentally hit the gas pedal, that will scare the shit out of you. Not much of a story to tell other than I nearly crapped my pants.

can't seem to understand why they keep the brake pedal VERY NEAR to the gas pedal? there has been a lot of recorded accidents due to this kind of setup. even on automatic gears (you can understand with the manual gear since there just isn't that much space) why not keep them as far as possible? if this happens to young people, how much to granny driving the old wagon?
