So, long story short...

While Zoe was in high school

Zoe made the mistake of

focusing on my studies and not getting a job

My Advice to You is

balance work and study whilst still in high school

Here's the whole story

Whilst in high school I made the choice to focus my energy on studying and wait until the following year to start job hunting. As it turns out, nobody wants to hire an 18/19 year old with little to no experience in flipping burgers or as a check-out chick. Most companies will not hire inexperienced older persons whom they must pay above minimum wage when they could get the same results from someone younger and much cheaper.

Even if it's just a few hours a week at your local fast food outlet, I highly recommend going for it, as you won't be so stuck for employment in the months following high school.

For most entry level positions its not really about experience. Its basically do you have an "in" with any of the current employees. Playing that card can at least get your foot in the door.

Very true Dennis, very often it's not what you know but who, though some of us aren't so lucky!
