So, long story short...

While Dennis Eusebio was starting off as a designer

Dennis Eusebio made the mistake of

not learning how to say no

My Advice to You is

stand by your decisions

Here's the whole story

Back when I was first learning how to design and taking on freelance clients, I had this huge problem of always agreeing with what the client said. I'd bend over backward constantly and would turn into an order-taker.

After a couple years, I learned more and more that people will not respect you if you say yes to everything. No matter how big the paycheck, you need to be honest with all your clients and let them know when you disagree with something. They're depending on your experience and expertise and they deserve to know your opinions on the work being produced. If the client is choosing something for the wrong reasons, its your job to tell them "hey, i don't think we should do this because...".

The client/designer relationship should be a partnership where both sides are working to produce the best product. Don't ever let it turn into a client dictating to you while you execute mindlessly.

Remember, they hired you for a reason.

"The client/designer relationship should be a partnership where both sides are working to produce the best product." AMEN!!!!! I've had this same problem - I've recently learned to JUST SAY NO! and not even take on some clients from the start.

I have been in the same place. Now working for a larger company I see this in middle management. They'll say yes to anything the next level of executives want. Often to the detriment of those under them. But you can tell the executives have no respect for that. If they said no more often, they would be seem as more of an equal.

It's funny that by trying to accommodate to supposedly get closer to the executives, the constant "yes" pushes them farther away.
